He joined the Church in his sixteenth year, received license to preach a few months later, and was employed in the [[Tennessee]] Conference. In 1826 he entered the travelling connection of that Conference, and in 1829 was transferred to the [[Missouri]] Conference. In 1841 failure of health obliged him to take a superannuated relation, which, with two years' exception of active work, he sustained until his death, at Hannibal, Mo., Nov. 5, 1846. Mr. Bewley was eminent for his sincere self- devotion and abundant labors. See Minutes of Annual Conferences of the M. E. Church South, 1847, p. 106. </p>
