(Heb, Beon', בְּעֹן , apparently an early error of transcription for MEON (See Meon) [q.v.]; Sept. Βαιαν v. r. Βαμά ), one of the places fit for pasturage given by Joshua to the tribes on the east of Jordan ( Numbers 32:3). It is elsewhere more properly called Beth-Baal. Meon ( Joshua 13:17), or more briefly BAAL-MEON ( Numbers 32:38), and Beth- Meon ( Jeremiah 48:23), for which this name may be a contraction.
