He obtained a prebend in London in 1771, and another in 1775, and became archdeacon of London the same year. He was chosen master of [[Jesus]] College, Cambridge, in 1781, and vice-chancellor of the University in 1782. He was consecrated bishop of [[Gloucester]] June 7, 1789, and translated to the see of Bath and [[Wells]] in 1802. He died April 21, 1824. He published a few sermons.
