a Congregational minister, was born in Granby, Massachusetts, May 1, 1817. He graduated from Amherst College in 1841; studied one year at Andover and one at Princeton; became pastor of the Church at Hadley, Massachusetts, in 1848, where he served until 1883, and remained pastor emeritus until his death, January 31, 1891. He was a member of the Hadley School Committee twenty-three years; representative to the General Court in 1882; a trustee of Hopkins Academy and president of the board.
