<p> a Methodist Episcopal minister, was born at Standish, Me., Nov. i5, 1803. He embraced religion in his fourteenth year, and in 1826 entered the [[Maine]] Conference. During the following forty-eight years of his itinerancy, eighteen were effective, nine supernumerary, and twenty-one superannuated. He died Jan. 17, 1874. Mr. Ayre was characterized by sound judgment, fluency, energy, and deep piety. Overwork disabled him. See Minutes of Annual Conferences, 1874, p. 76. </p>
