The following year, being appointed by Lesdiguiires chief of the Huguenots, he was obliged, in order to save his life, to retire to Rome, where he spent several years. Then he became reconciled with Henry. IV, who re-established him in his bishopric and made him cardinal. He died at [[Grenoble]] in 1600.
