He distinguished himself by his zeal against the heretics at the [[Council]] of [[Trent]] in a discussion with Poissy and certain of the clergy at [[Blois]] in 1577 and i578. The following year, being appointed by Lesdiguiires chief of the Huguenots, he was obliged, in order to save his life, to retire to Rome, where he spent several years.
