He was licensed to preach in 1826, when he is thought to have been twenty-eight years of age. His first fields of labor were at Cartersville and the [[Brick]] [[Church]] at Fluvianna; in 1828 he became pastor at Buckingham Courthouse, and in 1842 at Cumberland. He died at Woodville, Virginia, May 30, 1869. He was eminently useful, and his ministry was blessed with powerful revivals. See Nevin, Presbyterian Encyclop. s.v. </p>
