He became pastor at New London, [[Chester]] Co., Pa., in 1737, where he opened an academy in 1743. He removed to [[Philadelphia]] in 1752, and took charge of an academy there. In 1755 he was appointed vice-provost and Professor of Moral [[Philosophy]] in the newly-established University of Pennsylvania. He died Nov. 28, 1779. Dr. Allison was very active in the events which led to the "Great Schism" in 1744.
