Dr. Gano, pastor of the First Baptist [[Church]] at Providence, he was ordained; to the work, of the [[Christian]] ministry, under the direction of that Church, and settled as pastor of the Church at Goshen, Conn. Ill-health compelled him to retire from the ministry, and he lived during the remainder of his long life on a farm in his native town, holding various civil offices, and in many ways making himself useful in his day and generation. He died May 19, 1879, being at the time of his death the oldest alumnus of Brown University. (J. C. S.) </p>
