He was brought to [[Christ]] at the age of thirteen through the teaching, example, and prayers of his pious parents; was educated at [[Governor]] Wesleyan Seminary; received license to exhort when but eighteen; two years later to preach; and in 1844 united with the [[Black]] [[River]] Conference. He died Aug. 29,1865. Mr. Alden was mild, yet decided; genial, yet so positive in virtue and grace as to banish everything vicious. He was devoutly sincere.
