He went to Rome in 1022 to' receive the pall from the pope, and upon his return is said to have brought from [[Pavia]] an arm of St. Augustine, bishop of Hippo, for which he paid one hundred "talents of silver. This he presented to Leofric, earl of Coventry, together with a work which he composed on the subject. He died Oct. 29, 1038.
