Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]
Jutah or Juttah (in Joshua 15:55 AV [Note: Authorized Version.] has Juttah, which is read in Joshua 21:16 by both AV [Note: Authorized Version.] and RV [Note: Revised Version.] ). A town of Judah ( Joshua 15:55 ) given to the priests as a city of refuge for the manslayer ( Joshua 21:16 ). It has been left out of the catalogue of cities of refuge in 1 Chronicles 6:59 , but QPB adds note: ‘Insert, Juttah with her pasture grounds.’ It has been suggested that Jutah was the residence of Zacharias and Elisabeth, and the birthplace of John the Baptist ( Luke 1:39 ‘a city of Judah ’). Jutah is probably the modern village of Yuttâ , standing high on a ridge 16 miles from Beit Jibrîn (Eleutheropolis).
