    Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature [3]

    (Heb. Pirathoini', פַּרְעָתוֹנַי and פַּרְעָתֹנַי, from Pirathon; Sept. Φαραθωνίτης, Φαραθωνει or ἐκ Φαραθών ), a native or inhabitant of Pirathon (q.v.); the epithet of the judge Abdon ( Judges 12:13;  Judges 12:15), and of two of David's officers, namely, Benaiah, captain of the eleventh army contingent ( 1 Chronicles 23:14), and a member of the royal guard ( 1 Chronicles 11:31).
