| <p> (Heb. Homan, הוֹמָם, discomfiture; Sept. Αἰμάν, Vulg. Homan), the second named of the two sons of Lotan, son of [[Seir]] the [[Horite]] (1 Chronicles 1:39). In the parallel passage (Genesis 36:22) his name is written HEMAMI (Heb. Heyman הֵימָם, Sept.Αἱμάν, Vulg. Henlan). B.C. considerably ante 1964. [[Homam]] is assumed by [[Gesenius]] to be the original form (Thes. p. 385 a). By Knobel (Genesis, p. 254) the name is compared with that of el-Homaima, a town now ruined, though once important, half way between [[Petra]] and Ailath, on the ancient road at the back of the mountain, which the Arabic geographers describe as the native place of the Abassides (Robinson, Res. 2, 572).
