        <p> ( Ἀπάμη ἀπαμάω, to cut off) , the name given in the [[Apocrypha]] ( 1 [[Esdras]] 4:29) and by [[Josephus]] ( Ant. 11, 3, 5) as that of a concubine of [[Darius]] (Hystaspis), of whom he was very fond, being the daughter of one of his nobles (Rabsases [? Rab-saris] Themasius, or "the admirable Bartacus"). Apama was the name of the wives of several of the Seleucid kings (see Smith's Dict. of Class. Biog. s.v.), but none of this name are assigned in history to Darius. </p>
