<p> [[Greatest]] Arabic historian of Egypt, born at Cairo; studied philosophy and theology, and in 1385 won the green turban; occupied several political and ecclesiastical offices; went to [[Damascus]] in 1408, but returning to [[Cairo]] devoted himself to history, and published among other works an important "History of Egypt and Cairo" (1364-1442). </p>
