<p> Merrick (or Meryek), Rowland </p> <p> an English prelate of the 16th century, was born at Bodingan, Anglesea, was educated at Oxford, where he became principal of New [[Inn]] Hall, and afterwards a dignitary in the Church of St. David's, and here he and others, in the reign of [[Edward]] VI, violently prosecuted [[Robert]] Farrar, his diocesan, and prevailed so far that the latter was imprisoned (see Fox, Acts and Monuments, an. 1555). Dr. Merrick was consecrated bishop of Bangor, December 21, 1559, and died January 24, 1566. See Fuller, [[Worthies]] of [[England]] (ed. Nuttall), 3:509. </p>
