<p> John (VI, Patriarch) Of [[Constantinople]] </p> <p> was appointed by the emperor, Philippicus Bardanes, A.D. 712, for his Monothelite opinions and his rejection of the authority of the sixth ecumenical (third Constantinopolitan) council. Cyrus, the predecessor of John, was deposed to make way for him, according to Cave. John was deposed, not long after his elevation, in consequence, apparently, of the deposition of his patron Philippicus, and the elevation of Artemius or [[Anastasius]] II. [[Theophanes]] does not notice the fate of John, but records the elevation of his successor, Germanus, metropolitan of Cyzicus, to the patriarchate of Constantinople A.D. 715.
