<p> a Russian prelate, was born in Prussian Poland, of Lutheran parents, at the commencement of the 17th century. He joined the Greek Church while yet young, and became a monk. Distinguished for great ability and learning, he was selected for a professor's chair at Kief. He died at that place Feb. 24, 1684. He published On the Peace between God and Man (Kief, 1669), which, by a ukase of the [[Synod]] of 1766, was put in the Index:-Instructions on the [[Sacrament]] of [[Penitence]] (Kief, 1671); and left in MS. a work on The true Faith (written in Polish), which aims to refute a work on the [[Supremacy]] of St. Peter, and the [[Procession]] of the [[Holy]] Spirit.
