<p> Alms-Day (Or Alms-Saturday) </p> <p> the Saturday before [[Passion]] Week, i.e. preceding [[Palm]] Sunday; so called because contributions for the poor during [[Lent]] are sometimes given out on that day, so as not to interfere with the solemnities of the coming [[Holy]] Week. The [[Secret]] in the Sarum office for the day referred both to the alms- giving and the alms-distribution. </p>
