<p> a Presbyterian minister, was born in New York in 1798. He was educated. at [[Columbia]] College, and studied theology in the seminary at New Brunswick, N.J. His first pastorate was near Albany, N.Y. in 1841 he became pastor of the Presbyterian [[Church]] at Morristown, N.J.; in 1845 he removed to Newport, R.I., where he devoted himself to the interests of education, and perfected the public school system which [[Newport]] to this day enjoys. He died July 5, 1865. See Wilson, Presb. Hist. Almanac, 1866, page 100. </p>
