Auranus [1]

( Αὔρανος ), given as the name of the leader in the riots at Jerusalem against Lysimachus ( 2 Maccabees 4:40), where he is described as "a man far gone in years, and no less in folly." Other MSS., however (followed by the Vulg.), read Τύραννος , Tyrannus, which may be taken either as a proper name or appellative, q. d. Ringleader.
