hā´mul ( חמוּל , ḥāmūl , "pitied," "spared"): A son of Perez, and head of one of the clans of Judah ( Genesis 46:12; 1 Chronicles 2:5; Numbers 26:21 ). His descendants were called Hamulites.

(Heb. Chamul', חָמוּל , spared; Sept. Ι᾿εμουήλ), the second of the two sons of Pharez, son of Judah (1 Chronicles 2:5). He could not have been born, however, before the migration of Jacob into Egypt (as appears to be stated in Genesis 46:12), since Pharez was not at that time grown up (Genesis 38:1). His descendants were called HAMULITES (Numbers 26:21). B.C. between 1870 and 1856.
