denotes (a) "a necessity," imposed whether by external circumstances, e.g., Luke 23:17 , or inward pressure, e.g., 1 Corinthians 9:16; (b) "straits, distress," Luke 21:23 (in ver. 25 "distress" translates No. 3); 1 Corinthians 7:26; 1 Thessalonians 3:7; the last two refer to the lack of material things.
