Israel Warburton Putnam [1]
a Congregational minister, was born at Danvers, Massachusetts, November 24, 1786. He entered Harvard College in 1805, but left in his sophomore year, and graduated from Dartmouth in 1809. He began the study of law; in 1811 united with the Church in Salem, and not long afterwards began the study of theology, graduating from Andover Theological Seminary in 1814. In October of that year he preached at Brookfield and in various other places, and in January 1815, accepted a call to the First Church in Portsmouth, N.H.
