St. Amandus [1]
was born in Bordeaux, and was ordained priest by St. Delphinus, bishop of that city, and was godfather to St. Paulinus. In 404 he succeeded Delphinus in the see, and it is said that when St. Severinus (q.v.) retired to Bordeaux, Amandus, through extreme humility, compelled him to take charge of the government of that Church. He governed the Church with so much zeal that he was regarded as one of the most saintly prelates of his time.
