(Hebrew id. אלִֵישׁוּ , God is his Salvations, Sept. Ε᾿λισουέ v.r. Ε᾿λισαύ and Ε᾿λισά, Vulg. Elisua), one of the sons of David, born at Jerusalem ( 2 Samuel 5:15; 1 Chronicles 14:5); called ELISHAMA (See Elishama) (q.v.) in the parallel passage ( 1 Chronicles 3:6). B.C. post 1044.

el -i -shū´a , ē̇ -lish´ū̇ -a ( אלישׁוּע , 'ĕlı̄shūȧ‛ , "God is rich," "God is salvation"): Son of David ( 2 Samuel 5:15; 1 Chronicles 14:5 ); apparently called Elishama ( 1 Chronicles 3:6 ). In the latter locus we have most probably a misreading by the copyist of the name Elishua.
